I think you have a good point - in many cases, the U.S. is left holding the bill for humanitarian/political interventions that most would agree are just. However, it seems as if the U.S. voters are generally less informed and invested in choosing leaders who ARE informed, who then, in turn, initiate irresponsible actions abroad. Iraq is a case in point.

Perhaps, as other respondents have suggested, international election oversight is a more viable solution. Of course, fair elections around the globe should be goal of voters everywhere.
